What is Vitamin D?

Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin. It is used by the body in the absorption of calcium. Vitamin D is mainly found in meats but is also created by the body naturally with exposure to sunlight.

What does Vitamin D Do?

In addition to aiding the body in the absorption of calcium, vitamin D is important in maintaining a healthy balance of phosphorous in the body.

US RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) of Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin. As a fat soluble vitamin, the threat of toxicity is greater than that of a water soluble vitamin. In particular, an overdose of vitamin D can lead to over-absorption of calcium by the body which could lead to calcium deposits developing in the body.

Dr. Joseph F. Smith's Medical Library has information on the RDA for vitamin D.
